Royal Chateau of Blois
What if you could explore four castles in one? An architectural jewel is revealed to your eyes. The four wings, each in a different style, represent the evolution of the castle within its main courtyard: medieval, Flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance, and Neoclassical.
Ingenuity, technical skill, and beauty are pursued and sculpted into every detail by the monarchs.
Over 1,000 years of history await you in this castle. Originally built by the powerful family of the Counts of Blois, medieval sections remain, such as the magnificent Hall of the Estates General.
An exploration of life at the French court is recreated in some thirty richly furnished and decorated rooms. The François I Wing and the royal apartments bear witness to the tumultuous life of the Valois family. Catherina de Medici and her son Henry III were the main protagonists during the Wars of Religion. Many other events, some tragic, took place in the struggle for royal power up until the 17th century, involving Gaston d’Orléans, brother of King Louis XIII.
The magnificent art collections and extraordinary restoration projects allow us to immerse ourselves once again in these fascinating stories. Take in the view from outside the château, with its terraces, 13th-century tower, and panoramic view of the city and the Loire River.
A visit and a journey through time that you won’t want to miss during your stay in the Loire Valley!
