Bourgeuil Vineyard
Shaped by its history and the development of viticulture pioneered by the monks of Bourgueil Abbey, this iconic Loire Valley appellation* is rooted in two distinct terroirs: the sandy and gravelly soils along the banks of the Loire, and the limestone-rich tuffeau soils on the hillsides.
This diversity is fully evident during tasting, offering a range of wines from light, fresh, and fruity profiles to more complex, structured, and age-worthy wines.
As in Chinon, Cabernet Franc is the dominant grape variety in this western part of Touraine, producing elegant wines with aromas of red fruit, spices, and subtle herbal notes—hallmarks of the great wines of the Loire Valley.
Exceptional wineries open their doors to you, inviting you to discover the full richness of the Bourgueil appellation through wines that are sometimes approachable and indulgent, and at other times deeper and more gastronomic. Cabernet Franc also yields delicate rosés, perfect for summer sipping. The experience includes a tour of the vineyards, a guided visit to the cellar or winery, and a guided tasting of the estate’s wines, offering a complete immersion in the heart of wine tourism in the Loire Valley.
What is an appellation ?
An appellation, also known as an AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée), refers to a wine produced in a specific region and subject to strict production standards. It guarantees the wine’s origin, the winemakers’ expertise, and the wine’s distinctive character, which reflects the local climate, soils, and grape varieties.
