The Domain of Chaumont-sur-Loire
A medieval fortress overlooking the Loire River, the Chateau de Chaumont-sur-Loire is one of the most iconic sites in the Loire Valley. Rebuilt in the late 15th century by the Amboise family, it elegantly blends Gothic architecture with Renaissance influences.
The château is marked by the famous rivalry between Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers. After the death of King Henry II, the queen forced her rival to exchange the Château de Chenonceaufor that of Chaumont-sur-Loire, giving rise to one of the most famous episodes in the history of the Loire Valley châteaux.
Over the centuries, the estate has welcomed many notable figures and seen major transformations, particularly in the 19th century under the de Broglie family, who created a vast landscaped parkand sumptuous stables that were among the most modern in Europe.
Today, the Chaumont-sur-Loire Estate is also famous for its International Garden Festival, which brings together heritage, artistic creation, and landscapes in the heart of the Loire Valley.
